This painting started as a doodle, when I was trying to figure out how to draw a bubble in black and white. Then the doodle became a month long diversion (effectively putting off my having to figure out how to draw a bubble in black and white).
The two fairies on the left who are staring at the bubbles with wonderment did not give me the idea for the illustration. The fairy to the right, the one who is surreptitiously popping the bubbles with a needle, was the genesis. But without the two wondering fairies to the left, the bubble popper would just be someone who likes popping bubbles, not someone who is mischievous.
